What is IIFBES?

The International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IIFBES) is an open-ended, self-organizing network that aims to bring together members of Indigenous Peoples and local communities who are interested in the work of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Service (IPBES). The Network aims to facilitate and enhance the effective participation of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in IPBES processes, taking into account the diversity of its members. The main objectives of IIFBES are:  
To facilitate and enhance the effective participation of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in IPBES processes, by:    

  • Fostering and facilitating a two-way dialogue between network members and IPBES;
  • Fostering and facilitating a dialogue between network members;
  • Facilitating and enhancing participation of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in IPBES activities;
  • Supporting the dissemination of information and materials on IPBES products to Indigenous Peoples and local communities, to enhance their benefits from these products; and
  • Recognizing the diversity of IFBES members.

Facilitation   
The network is facilitated by the Network of the Centers of Distinction on Indigenous and Local Knowledge.
