648 Tue, 25/06/2024 rspaull WWF Malaysia Examines Malaysian Banks Public Sustainability Disclosures Against Climate & Biodiversity Criteria Using IPBES Studies as Reference English Following UNFCCC COP28 in 2023, WWF Malaysia has researched the public sustainability disclosures of Malaysian banks against a set of transparent climate and biodiversity criteria. The results show increasing maturity of bank efforts to recoginse and integrate sustainability into their strategies but also reveals gaps for a just transition. They urge Malaysian banks to sign both the Principles of Responsible Banking (PRB) and the Science-based Targets Initiative (SBTi). While Malaysian banks have exhibited familiarity with climate-related risks and aligned themselves with Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) frameworks, the global consensus on a new challenge relates to the exploration of nature-related risks. Studies conducted by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) provide references to what should be done. A bank in France has demonstrated such a proactive approach by referencing studies conducted by IPBES. 646 Tue, 25/06/2024 Amarys Preuss Japan Adopts National Biodiversity Strategy 2023-2030 Drawing Extensively on IPBES Report Findings Japanese Japan adopted, on 31 March 2023, its Sixth National Biodiversity Strategy (2023-2030) for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity based on the national Basic Act on Biological Diversity.

The Biodiversity Strategy was built around the 23 GBF Targets and in particular those linked to the five drivers of biodiversity loss identified by IPBES Global Assessment Report.
The rationale for the Strategy makes significant use of IPBES findings to outline the links between the drivers of biodiversity loss and the challenges for Japan in terms of climate (IPBES-IPCC workshop report, Global Assessment Report), food security and agriculture (Global Assessment and Pollinators Assessment Reports), fishery (Regional Assessment Report for Asia Pacific), human, animal and environmental health (IPBES Pandemics and Biodiversity Workshop) and pollution (Global Assessment Report).

Among the actions committed to by the Japanese government in the 2023-2030 Strategy features the contribution to international cooperation and knowledge capitalization in matters of biodiversity conservation such as IPBES processes and assessments, including the promotion of Japanese researchers and experts contributions to the assessments (with a target of 5 experts nominated by 2030). In addition, the Strategy recommends the creation of a country-level science-policy interface based on the IPBES system, to promote the use of scientific knowledge in policy-making processes.

627 Mon, 24/06/2024 Amarys Preuss Dutch Minister for Nature Briefs Parliament on IPBES 10 Plenary Decisions and Implications for Dutch Biodiversity Policies Dutch On 6 December 2023, the Dutch Minister for Nature and Nitrogen Policy briefed the Netherlands Parliament on the outcomes of the 10th IPBES Plenary session (28 August-2 September 2023).
The Minister proposes several policies to be implemented in light of the decisions adopted at IPBES10:
- Invasive alien species: proposal for the continued and urgent implementation of the European Exotics Species Regulation, introduction of a national invasive species regulation, developing an approach and national strategy plan focused on prevention and early elimination, in accordance with the findings of the IPBES Invasive Alien Species Report which highlighted the lower cost of prevention of biological invasions rather than control and management of such invasions after they have taken place.
- IPBES-IPCC collaboration: national focal points for both intergovernmental organisations are encouraged to seek more cooperation at their own level, following the IPBES decision encouraging more interaction with IPCC counterparts.
- Dutch commitment to IPBES: The government commits to continuing its participation in SPM negociations, to ensure uptake and awareness of IPBES reports and attract more scientists and knowledge holders in IPBES processes. One key tool created for implementation of this policy is the creation of the Dutch IPBES Secretariat in May 2023, hosted by Naturalis and IUCN-NL.

625 Mon, 24/06/2024 Amarys Preuss Swedish University and Farming Data Platform Conduct Pilot Study Measuring Farm Impact on Nature and Biodiversity, Citing IPBES Highlights of the interlinked nature and climate challenges Swedish The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and Agronod - a farm data sharing platform - have developed a new tool (Agrosfär) in a pilot study making it possible to calculate and report biodiversity as well as climate impacts for a given farm and/or a specific production branch. One of the reasons given for the development of this tool is based on the interlinkages between climate and biodiversity challenges according to IPBES reports. The study proposes to support agricultural actors to be able to measure their impact on biodiversity and nature.

The feasibility study includes, among other things:
- A review of 16 different international methods for measuring the value of biodiversity.
- Factors that affect biodiversity in arable landscapes in Sweden. Characteristics of the landscape and management methods that affect the nature around and on the farm.
- Factors and measures that affect the value of biodiversity on individual farms.
- Practical example of how a calculation can be done.
