Dear IPBES members, observers and other interested stakeholders,

With reference to notification EM/2020/37 (4 December 2020) I am pleased to announce the start of the external review of the second order draft of the chapters and the first order draft of the summary for policymakers of the assessment on values (https://ipbes.net/values-assessment/sod).

The period for this external review of the chapters is from 20 January to 19 March 2021. The draft of the summary for policymakers will be made available a few days after 20 January 2021.

This second external review is addressed to Governments and interested and qualified experts, including scientists, decision makers, practitioners and other knowledge holders. To ensure the highest scientific quality and policy relevance of the assessment, the Multidisciplinary Expert Panel is seeking the widest-possible participation from experts from all relevant disciplines and backgrounds. To ensure consistency with and continuity from the first external review, those who participated in the first review are particularly invited to send comments.

If you would like to participate as an expert reviewer in this external review, please follow these steps:

  1. Register as user of the IPBES website (https://ipbes.net/user/register) if you have not already done so.
  2. Apply to become an expert reviewer for individual chapters or for the summary for policymakers of the values assessment at https://ipbes.net/registration/values-assessment/sod (this will only work when logged in first as IPBES website user).

Once registered, you will immediately receive an email providing confidential access to the material and will be requested to submit your comments in English using a template that is available on the same webpage.

In addition to registering as reviewers, national focal points are invited to complete registration for a dialogue meeting for national focal points to be held online on 11 February 2021 through the same registration form. National focal points are also invited to share this invitation with a small number of other Government representatives or experts, who would then also register through the same form.

All interested stakeholders are invited to register for an online webinar for stakeholders for the second order draft, tentatively scheduled to be held on 1 March 2021 following the same link above.

Thank you again for your participation and assistance in strengthening the IPBES assessments through this external review.
