Silverstrand Capital Committs USD2.5M to the Invasive Species Corporation to Fund Research on Fighting Biological Invasions, Citing IPBES IAS Findings
English
Silverstrand Capital (Singapore) has committed $2.5m to the Invasive Species Corp. (ISC) pre-seed financing round, to fund the discovery, development and deployment of biological solutions to target invasive alien species. ISC cites the IPBES Global Assessment and Invasive Alien Species Assessment Reports to highlight the magnitude of the issue and its impact on biodiversity loss worldwide, with 16% of recorded extinctions attributed to invasive species, and a global economic cost of USD 423 bn annually. The investment will fund the development of products for control of 6 target groups of invasive plants and animals: Zebra and Quagga Mussels, Asian Carp, Toxic Algae, Aquatic Weeds, Agricultural and Forestry Weeds and Forest Pests (e.g. bark beetles, emerald ash and other borers, and hemlock wooly adelgid).
