IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas
The IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas (IUCN Green List) aims to increase the number of protected and conserved areas that deliver successful conservation outcomes through effective and equitable governance and management. The IUCN Green List was developed to enhance progress towards all elements of Aichi Biodiversity Target 11 under the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011 – 2020, and the environmental elements of the Sustainable Development Goals (notably Targets 14.2, 14.4, 14.5, 15.1, 15.2 and 15.5).
The aim of the IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas Standard is "to provide a global benchmark for protected and conserved areas to assess whether they are achieving successful conservation outcomes through effective and equitable governance and management." The Standard helps to measure the effectiveness of spatial biodiversity conservation efforts, and in particular, Aichi Target 11 and two of the Sustainable Development Goals, for Targets 14.2, 14.4, 14.5, 15.1, 15.2 and 15.5.
