George Mason University
Dr. A. Alonso Aguirre focuses on the emerging fields of conservation medicine and One Health to understand the ecology of emerging infectious diseases in wildlife and the links to human health and conservation of biodiversity. For the past three decades his collaborations have focused on transdisciplinarity, critical thinking and capacity building, advancing basic science in zoonotic and vector-borne diseases. More recently, he and his collaborators are focusing on integrating One Health and the UN Sustainable Development Goals as imperatives toward an integrative science and practice of ecology, health and sustainability. He has published extensively in this field and advised multiple countries on the threat of wildlife diseases to human health and biodiversity.
