The diverse values and value systems across the Asia-Pacific region shape interactions between people and nature. There are some significant valuation data gaps so caution needs to be applied during interpretation. While people across the region value nature for its contributions to their spiritual, cultural and physical well-being, these contributions have been measured to different extent with respect to their economic value. Studies of valuation estimates of nature’s contributions to people2 in the Asia-Pacific region show that, in addition to provisioning services, regulating services are also significantly valued, and their contribution to a good quality of life is acknowledged. But the number of such studies is small, and drawn mostly from North-East Asia and Oceania.
