Uptake and use of approved IPBES assessments
The objective of this assessment is to determine (i) the state of knowledge on biodiversity and ecosystem services, as well as the trends and determinants of the transformation of the Brazilian coastal and marine zone; (ii) the consequences of this transformation for human welfare associated to biodiversity and ecosystem services, taking into services, taking into consideration the various knowledge and value systems (iii) the measures needed, and governance options, to mitigate degradation and degradation and to restore biodiversity and ecosystem services
The assessment will cover the Marine Area under National Jurisdiction and the Coastal Zone of Brazil. The Marine Area under National Jurisdiction includes the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) beyond the Legal Continental Shelf (JCP) - which in some in some cases exceeds 200 nautical miles from the EEZ. The Coastal Zone is delimited with a width of 12 nautical miles nautical miles from the baseline on the coast, in addition to its terrestrial part which all municipalities facing the sea and the areas of influence associated with hydrographic basins

BPBES started in 2021 a Voluntary Young Researcher Program (JVP). In this particular Assessment there are 12 Post-Doc (2 per chapter and 2 with the Chairs of the Assessment). This 2 working with the chairs are also part of the IAI STeP Program (https://www.iai.int/en/step)
