As an example, more than 80 per cent of the oceans remain completely unmapped. This is combined with an equally poor mapping of freshwater and groundwater resources on the continent. To address this, ECA has embarked on the development of a Blue Economy valuation toolkit aimed to guide data collection and analysis for the socio-economic assessment of blue resources, including goods and services generated; which in turn is expected to provide an accurate snapshot of the potential of the Blue Economy and to help inform decision-making. In addition, there is still lack of clear understanding of the concept and multisectoral approach of the Blue Economy by policy makers and stakeholders. ECA has played an instrumental role in the past few years in assisting member States and regional bodies in developing their first strategic policy frameworks using the methodology provided by the Blue Economy Policy Handbook for Africa (ECA flagship publication). Countries such as Seychelles have decided to fully focus on the Blue Economy to sustain their post-Covid19 recovery. Indeed, due to the vastness of its opportunities the Blue Economy repre- sents more and more a very promising outlet to build economies back better, for sustainable growth within the context of the socio-economic crisis generated by the Covid 19 pandemic. Hence, there is need to build and develop capacities on the Blue Economy concept, approach, related policy and valuation tools to raise awareness, disseminate knowledge and enable key players to apply it through tailor-made assessments as well as policy and regulatory frameworks and action plans. IDEP in partnership with the Centre for Blue Governance, University of Portsmouth, conside- ring its importance has decided to organize a second edition accommodating the participation of a Portuguese audience. This training falls under Cluster 4 (Integrated Natural Resource Management) of the training cata- logue adopted by the Technical Advisory Committee of UNIDEP and endorsed by its governing council. |

The results of the research will make it possible to assess current opportunities, gaps and challenges. What will allow the design of a relevant and culturally appropriate knowledge management strategy, and that facilitates the creation of capacities to increase community resilience and adaptation to Climate Change. |

Therefore,, I suggest to all stakeholder of IPBES to incorporate this tool in all matters of capacity-building processes to achieve the goals of SDG 14 and also make it part of the political declaration of UNOC 2022 to further its implementation through UNCLOS and ISA. It is a great concept to adopt and I hope most of the nations would support it because its implementation gives a win win situation for every one and nothing to loose with respect to Climate Change and environmental impacts. I am ready to contribute knowledge in this matter, if stakeholders are interested to further its applications and in my opinion it should be taken up before the UNOC 2022, so that some consensus among the stakeholders should be developed before this event for its approval. |

As envisioned at intergovernmental levels, the linkages between the 'nature's contribution to the people' (NCP) and 'good quality of life' (GQL) have been taken as a guiding principle to develop capacity building modules for this programme. The classification of different nature's contributions under material, non-material and regulative functions of biodiversity received immense attention in science policy platforms. The ToT will effectively disseminate the knowledge and skill required for improving the governance of biodiversity and ecosystem services at the grassroots level through Panchayat Raj. It will also help to impart the socio-economic and governance dimensions of biodiversity and ecosystem services to 2.6 lakhs panchayats in India . |

Capturing and synthesizing lessons learned on conducting sub-global ecosystem assessments, and supporting networking opportunities for practitioners involved in such assessments across the world. The NEA Initiative will deliver further capacity building activities . This year, we have a global capacity building workshop planned and we will continue to organise webinars and develop further capacity building resources. |
