Dr Jyothis Sathyapalan completed his Ph. D in economics from the University of Mysore, through the Centre for Ecological Economics and Environment at the Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC) Bangalore, India. His PhD thesis entitled “Economics of Biodiversity Conservation: A Case Study of Western Ghats of Kerala, India” focused on economic valuation of biodiversity conservation. At present, He is working as Professor at the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Hyderabad. Recently, he completed a major project on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Service Scenarios Network (ScenNet), supported by the Belmont forum through the Ministry of Earth Science, Government of India. He co-authored a book with Dr K N Ninan on “Economics of Biodiversity Conservation: Valuation in tropical forest ecosystems” published by EARTHSCAN Publishers, London. All his research works deals with the interface between biodiversity conservation and human wellbeing which is an important area in IPBES assessments.
