Mohamed Behnassi is a Full Researcher Professor of Global Environmental and Human Security Politics at Ibn Zohr University of Agadir, Morocco since 2004. In 2003, he obtained his PhD in International Environmental Law and Governance from Hassan II University of Casablanca. He was the Director of the Research Laboratory for Territorial Governance, Human Security and Sustainability (LAGOS) (2015-2018) and the Founder and Director of the Center for Environment, Human Security and Governance (CERES) (2016-at present). He is also Associate Researcher at the UMR ESPACE-DEV, IRD, France. In 2015, he obtained a Diploma in Diplomacy and International Environmental Law from the University of Eastern Finland and UNEP. Dr. Behnassi is specialist in environmental/climate change and human security politics. His publication record in these areas is substantial. Recent publications include: Human and Environmental Security in the Era of Global Risks (Springer 2019) ; Climate Change, Food Security and Natural Resource Management: Perspectives from Africa, Asia and the Pacific Islands (Springer 2019); Environmental Change and Human Security in Africa and the Middle East (Springer 2017). In addition, Dr. Behnassi has organized many international conferences covering the same areas and managed many research and expertise projects on behalf of various national and international institutions. In addition, he was short-listed in 2014 as a candidate for the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Implications for Human Rights of the Environmentally Sound Management and Disposal of Hazardous Substances and Wastes. Recently, he was appointed by the Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change (Medec) among the Lead Authors who are preparing the 1st Assessment Report (MAR1) to be released in 2020. His core contribution in this assessment covers human security related issues. Other professional activities include Social Compliance Auditing and consultancy by monitoring human rights and sustainability in the global supply chain. In 2019, he was appointed by Moroccan National Council for Scientific and Technological Research as an Expert-Evaluator. In 2020, Dr. Behnassi has been nominated by the Multidisciplinary Expert Panel of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) as a Member of the Expert Group to assist with the scoping of the nexus assessment of the interlinkages among biodiversity, water, food and health in the context of climate change.
