I am an ecologist by training specialized in conservation conflicts. I am Associate Professor of Ecosystem Services and Sustainability at the University of Almeria (2020- ) and Affiliated Faculty at Idaho State University (2018- ). I’m Principal Investigator of the PAIDI research group Sustainability, Resilience and Governance of Socio-Ecological Systems (SOCIECOS Lab).

I spent about 6 years in the USA, first as Associate Researcher at the University of Oklahoma (2012-2015), and later as Assistant Professor at Idaho State University (2015-2018). I also was a visiting postdoc at CSU in Australia (2010-2011) and at VU Amsterdam University in the Netherlands (2011-2012).

I am overall interested in exploring the complexity of people-nature relations, with the ultimate goal of understanding ecological, moral, and psychological dimensions of human behaviors that directly or indirectly affect nature conservation.

Additionally, I am Associate Editor of the JRC-journals People and Nature and Journal of Arid Environments. Since 2018 I am also serving as Lead Author of the UN-IPBES Global Values Assessment and coordinate the PECS-WaterSES project. I am an active member of the GEOBON-ES and the ESP Dryland-WG.
