Leonardo TUNESI, MSc in Biology. He is Research Director and the Head of the Area "Marine biodiversity, habitat and species protection" in ISPRA, the Italian National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research.
His major professional interests, developed in over 39 years of post-graduate research activities, focus on marine sciences and conservation. He works for the creation of marine protected areas as effective conservation tools, applying the most updated scientific approaches to protect marine habitats and species, in particular the deep-sea ecosystems, within the framework of the sustainable development.
He is the Italian Focal Point of the SPA/BIO Protocol of the Barcelona Convention (UNEP MAP).
He is member of the Scientific Committee of the National Technological Cluster "Blue Italian Growth" (since 2018).
