Dear IPBES members, observers and other interested stakeholders,
 
I am very pleased to announce that, on the basis of a request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation of the Republic of Suriname, the Government of the Republic of Suriname has formally joined IPBES as its 138th member.
 
Mr. Ritesh Sardjoe, Permanent Secretary of the Directorate of Environment of the Ministry of Spatial Planning and Environment, has been officially designated as the IPBES National Focal Point for Suriname.
 
I extend to Suriname our warmest welcome to the IPBES family, which continues to grow, both in size and extent of engagement and impact.
