Assessment of Climate Change in the Southwest United States
The report was published widely and promoted through a social media campaign to ensure that the information was reaching people that could find it useful. The report’s links to the National Climate Assessment made it a useful resource for stakeholders interested in learning more about impacts on the Southwest region.
This report was prepared as part of a series of expert technical inputs to the National Climate 2013 report, conducted under the auspices of the Global Change Research Act of 1990.
This resource was peer-reviewed by a government and university staff and stakeholders throughout the Southwest region.
This assessment considers observed and projected climate change impacts on ecological and human systems in the Southwest region of the United States. The geographically-variable Southwest is designated a highly “climate-challenged” region due to the variety of threats that warming temperatures and increasing natural disasters may pose to water, food, and energy security. The assessment then presents options for stakeholders and decision-makers to respond and adapt to climate change risks in multiple sectors.
