ILK dialogue workshop for the first order draft of the values assessment

The review period of the first order drafts of the values assessment (which ran from 29 July to 22 September 2019) is a key point in the assessment process. An ILK dialogue workshop was held on 10 and 11 September 2019 in the community Capulálpam de Méndez in Oaxaca, Mexico. The aim of the dialogue was for IPLC participants to critical review the contents of the drafts to provide feedback to authors regarding strengths, gaps, and additional sources of information and expertise. The results of the dialogue will be entered into the review process of the assessment, for attention of the author teams as they further develop the assessment. 

This dialogue workshop was the second of a series of dialogue workshops held during the assessment process. These dialogues are part of a range of activities aimed at IPLC participation, with an overall aim of facilitating the explicit and coherent cross-cutting incorporation of ILK views and IPLC needs into the assessment. IPBES has adopted an “approach to working and recognizing approach to recognizing and working with Indigenous and local knowledge” which informs how IPBES assessments will work with ILK. IPBES has also developed a series of activities and processes that together make up a participatory mechanism for IPLC.
