Joint meeting of IPBES task forces
This joint meeting of the task forces is the first meeting of the five task forces of IPBES newly appointed for the new work programme of IPBES.
Background
The Plenary of IPBES, at its 7th session held in Paris from 29 April to 4 May 2019, adopted the IPBES rolling work programme up to 2030, including three priority topics and a set of specific objectives (see here).
For the implementation of objective 2, objective 3 and objective 4(a) and (b) of the work programme, the Plenary either extended the mandate of an existing task force or establihsed a new task force. Therefore, under the 2030 work programme, IPBES has the following five task forces:
- the task force on capacity-building (see here for the list of members selected until IPBES 10);
- the task force on Indigenous and local knowledge (see here for the list of members selected until IPBES 10);
- the task force on knowledge and data (see here for the list of members selected until IPBES 10);
- the task force on policy tools and methodologies (see here for the list of members selected until IPBES 10);
- the task force on scenarios and models (see here for the list of members selected until IPBES 10).
Objectives of the meeting
The joint meeting of the five task forces has two related objectives:
1) For each task force, to develop an overall work plan, including:
- Specific deliverables for each one of the three priority topics of the 2030 rolling work programme of IPBES;
- An implementation section with specific activities and timelines for the period between IPBES 7 (May 2019) and IPBES 8 (Feb 2021), with plans for the period beyond IPBES 8.
2) For each task force to understand the work of other task forces and have the opportunity to discuss collaboration, in order to promote coherence in the implementation of the work programme.

Organization of the meetings
The meetings of the five task forces are scheduled in parallel, including joint sessions with all task forces and separate sessions in which task forces met individually.The Chair of IPBES, Ana MarĂa Hernandez Salgar, will open the joint introductory session of the meetings of the five task forces on Monday, 11 November 2019 at 2 p.m., followed by opening remarks by the Executive Secretary, Anne Larigauderie.
