The outcomes of the 1^st Ad-Hoc Intergovernmental and Multi-Stakeholder meeting on an Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), held in Putrajaya, Malaysia from 10 to 12 November 2008, were presented to the 25th session of the UNEP Governing Council - Ministerial Environmental Forum. Consequently, the Governing Council adopted the decision 25/10 on the intergovernmental science-policy platform on biodiversity and ecosystem services, calling for UNEP to undertake a further process to explore ways and means to strengthen the science-policy interface. Specifically, the decision requested UNEP to undertake the following:

1. Complete the full gap analysis building on the preliminary analysis presented to the 25th Governing Council; and
2. Convene a second intergovernmental multi-stakeholder meeting on IPBES in 2009 (scheduled for 5-9 October 2009).
